Show Me Your Way, O LORD, Teach Me Your Paths - Psalm 25:4

This lighter purple batik fabric provided a great place
to hand embroider the verse from Psalm 25:4,
" Show me your way, O LORD, teach me your paths."
Dark green embroidery floss was used.

"Mice" For Preemies

When completing a seam without another piece to add in, I sew two 2" squares together as "mice" to catch the threads and eliminate bunching up of fabric when adding a new piece next time. These squares are then sewn into a 4 patch row, etc. until it's a 16 patch which eventually will be made into a Preemie quilt like the one on Thursdays post.

Borders Added

When up close and person color advise is needed, I go see Marti.
She is great with color and has an extensive selection
of wonderful batik fabrics. Thanks Marti.
Hand embroidering the verse is next.

Another Preemie Quilt

Isn't it interesting how borders can change a piece?
This piece will go to the local Neonatal Unit to be used for
moral support as parents wrap their preemie babies in hand made quilts.

More Auditioning

Here's 3 more batik fabrics that I'm auditioning for this piece.
The top fabric is a rusty brown.
The left fabric is a dark green with foliage.
The right piece is a brown variegated with foliage also.
Opinions?

Border Auditions

The photo on the left is auditioning 3 different batik options -
either a Spring green (shown on bottom)
light green with vines, (shown on bottom right)
or a multicolored green and orange. (shown on top and top right)
The photo on right shows a somewhat moss green batik.
I'm leaning toward the moss green batik.

Batik Remnant Fun

Making these cobblestone blocks and square in a square
blocks from my batik remnant bin
has been challenging yet fun.
Today I arranged them on the flannel side of a
piece of plastic table cloth moving them about like a puzzle
before carefully sewing sections together.
Now....which scripture verse and where?
Borders or not?

Fun Mail

Wanda graciously sent these "cobblestone" sample blocks
along with these black/white batik strips.
Thanks for the generosity and inspiration Wanda!
I am going through my batik remnant bin
and plan to make some small blocks this week.

Desk Art Flowers

The background on this Desk Art
is stamped repeatedly with the verse,
"The Lord is my Shepherd" Psalm 23:1.
It turned out to be a design element even though
it really was an idea to save the piece
when the stamp didn't come out "right" the first time.

"Masculine" Card

Since I usually lean more towards "feminine" colors and designs,
creating "masculine" designs are more of a challenge for me.
Thankfully, I get lots of practice with sending out
birthday and anniversary cards to many family members.

Spring Dish Towel

After looking at store made dish towels
being over priced and not the colors I desired,
I purchased a plain dish towel and embellished it to suit me.
I machine appliqued a fun batik fabric with circles
on it for the flowers then added buttons.
The ribbon is fused to itself on the bottom
then stitched with decorative stitch.

Love The Bunny

84 fabric yo-yo's, pieced head,
Ultrasuede eyes and nose
make a bit more work than I originally thought
with this cute Yo-Yo Bunny.
But my granddaughter loves it.
Priceless.

Butterfly Tin Time Again

It takes about 60 Altoid tins (rectangular or circular) that are covered with butterfly fabric for each girls Chrysalis /Journey Flight in our area. Chrysalis, for 15- 18 year old and Journey, for college aged folks, is a weekend opportunity for them to renew or rekindle their commitment to Christ. These butterfly tins are small token reminders of God's love called Agape. It takes a lot of Altoid eating friends to make this work.

More Wonky Circle Fabric

There was enough fabric left from the pillows
to cover my sewing chair.
The back part of the chair simply came off
a couple of screws and a little tug to unclasp it.
For the bottom of the chair I pushed pins into the seat
to hold the fabric in place, then just
sewed the covered to the old fabric.
A little time consuming, but worth it.

"New" Apron

While clearing out some upholstery type of fabric
that had been given to me,
I spotted this nice fabric and sewed it into an apron.
I used an older apron for the pattern and
made bias for the binding and tie.

Canceled Postage Stamps & Handmade Marbled Paper

Canceled Postage Stamps are simply torn off
with a bit of envelope surrounding it,
placed in a recycled plastic jar lid with water to cover stamp,
then microwaved for about 15 seconds.
Let it sit on counter for a few minutes and
the stamp lifts off the paper with ease.
The handmade marbled paper was a gift.
Thanks Carol R.
They are nice additions to hand made cards.

Covered Pillows & Exchanged Buttons

I like wonky circle shapes,
which makes this upholstery fabric to cover pillows &
fuchsia buttons to replace the grey ones just right.

Buttons Or Not?

Machine quilting is complete.
Would button embellishments be too much?
Would another type of embellishment be better?

Purple Variegated Thread

Purple variegated thread will blend nicely to finish
machine quilting this piece.
And, since I only had a small amount left, a trip to the quilt shop
provided another spool of it.
The old spool is poly covered cotton machine quilting thread.
The new spool is 100% cotton hand quilting thread,
which I'm told will work fine.

Verse Machine Written

After practicing on a muslin practice piece (placed near art piece to get space perspective, I used this new to me soap stone marking pen to create the boundaries to machine write the verse,
"The joy of the LORD is my strength." and then the reference Nehemiah 8:10 on the bottom border.

5 Inches Of Snow

What a beautiful sight this morning. Susa loves the cold and would rather play in the snow but nicely posed for her photo next to the house.

Borders And Batting Added

The choice to fuse this piece originated because I wanted to use all the ' "scrap" strips in one piece and fusing would afford less for seams. First, each strip had fusing added to the back of it. Then blocks were created but cutting, overlapping a bit and then fusing. The "rows" were created by a bit of overlapping as well and fused to release paper. The only non scrap that I received is from a yard of hand dyed that I purchased and used for 2 of the purple borders. Now the piece measures about 14.75 X 21.25 inches. After trimming, the whole piece was fused to cotton batting. I'm not sure how I'm going to quilt it yet.
