Verse Done

The verse is complete and
next to prepare to quilt.
The disappearing pen I had
was old and didn't stay on well,
so I used the new white sew line pen.
Wouldn't it be nice for one type of
pen to work on all fabrics!

Oops

I got a bit off track with the verse
while visiting with lots of company.
Oh well, it was only part of a word
and it's easy to take out and continue on.
Love having company!

Next Quilting Design

Now that the yellow sections are completely quilted,
next are the hearts and border.
I'm still pondering ideas and open to suggestions.

Verse Decided

I was ready to sandwich this piece for quilting when I realized I hadn't added the verse.
I always pray about the verse when I am creating the piece knowing that the Lord has a plan even when I haven't a clue how He will use it.

Slow Yet Rewarding

It is so nice to have something to hand quilt available.
I'm still making progress on this small piece.

Bonus Piece

Adding a border to this "practice" piece from the John C. Campbell class gives enough room for a verse. Quilting has begun and I'm continuing to pray for the verse for it.

Border Added

A dark first border is necessary to give the eye a place to rest from all the fun movements of the Free Style Cobblestone blocks. I've found that a totally different fabric from the inside remnants works best.

Bug Free Bay Leafs

Small bay leafs can be purchased from health food stores for pennies and when kept in containers with food repel all types of bugs without smell or harming other contents.
What a deal! See more fun ideas here.

Free Style Cobblestones

As I prepare for a class I'm planning to teach this Summer, I'm creating this brown and aqua piece using Free Style Cobblestone Blocks. Too much fun! Now for borders and then Scripture.

Line Weight Exercise

Using only one color of various weight threads,
this exercise was to create design just using lines.

Shape: Active Vs Stationary Exercise

Again using the light yellow batik and same the same light and dark green batik fabrics for this exercise, it was interesting to create a stationary design. I most lean toward active designs. I'm not sure I'll quilt this little exercises or not.

Shape And Meaning Exercise

After drawing some simple shapes and creating them into plain fabric shapes, this exercise was to arrange them into a pleasing composition onto a "plain" muslin background fabric. Next was to stretch the shapes into new ones keeping the basic shape. Each piece is an 8" X 11".
I hardly own much "plain" fabric and preferred to use a light yellow background as to a boring muslin one. I also learned that I could draw a dragonfly and a ginkgo leaf free handed.

Carol's Precision

My friend, Carol R. created this table runner from some purple fabrics that was gifted to her. Check out those beautiful points!

Free Style Cobblestone Blocks

My batik remnant bin was used to create more Free Style Cobblestone blocks for a small wall hanging which will be an example for a class on it that I'm planning on teaching at a local quilt shop. More blocks are needed but that's just more fun.

Cutting Corners Avoids Unraveling

By simply cutting a small corner off the fabric before washing it, you can avoid unraveling of the threads from the edges. For more fun tips, see to Works For Me Wednesday.
(Carol- thanks for your comment yesterday but I can't respond to your email since you sent your comment as a no-reply.)

Great Fiber Art

Fiber Arts Alliance met recently with
lots of great show and tell. This creative piece was a practice for a commission piece
by Edie...I think.
(She is new to the group. )

Deb Brown created this wonderful doll
from fabric and other textiles.

Quilted!

It's quilted.
Now to add Scripture,
frame with a mat
or bind it and sew
onto a painted canvas.

Completed - Again - Oh Wait...

The cover up is complete with machine quilting and as I hung it to take a photograph for this blog post, I realized I hadn't signed it yet. Tomorrow.

Cover Up

Seeing this piece daily as it hangs in my living room, I've decided to cover up the purple ginkgo leaf on the left with a lighter purple color to give it more contrast to the black/white batik background. Now - which color to choose.
