"Singin' In The Rain" With My Needle Keeper

I chose to simply quilt "rain" strips
after adding a simple blue batik border where I'm
currently hand quilting the "fish" shapes.
Can you spot my Needle Keeper?

Scrap Vortex QAL Continues

The fun continues as I glean the batik remnant bin...OK bins
There's talk of a bed quilt....hmmm not sure that's my destination.
BUT,
I'm having a blast, a messy blast but the results
are very rewarding.
Could you see yourself doing this type of challenge?

Knitted Soap Saver

Since the circular crocheted  scrubber that I purchased
was past it's prime, and I don't crochet,
I looked online for a simple knitted version.
Grey netting to coordinate with my bathroom

Needle Keepers / Minders - Saving One Foot At A Time

I really enjoy needle handwork and do it often.
Sadly, I've lost many needles and my family tends to "find" them
 unexpectedly and not happily.
So, recently my now grown daughter purchased
a Needle Keeper / Minder for me in preparation to watch her 2 little boys on a trip...
go figure :)
What a great tool! I didn't loose one needle the whole 2 weeks!
Success. So I decided to create some and share the fun.

Scrap Vortex QAL - Crazy Mom Quilts

  I've chosen to join the
with Crazy Mom Quilts blog.
I had a slow start as I was helping someone else sew using my machine
although I pieced in between.
What fun to go through the  tiny batik fabric remnants.
It's coming along nicely and I'm considering
adding  solid read asymmetrical sashing strips.

Owie Owie Ouch

Yesterday, my birthday,
was a great time with family and friends, good food
and watching hubby and one son win their softball game.
A couple unwelcome adventures as 4 of my fingers were hurt
when a window fell unexpectedly and later a bee stung me below my eye at the ballgame.
 Feeling better this AM.
Guess I won't be sewing for awhile.
Blessed be the name of the Lord.
Interesting timing as I just completed "What's In Your Hand?" Quilted Wall Art.

"What's In Your Hand?" Completed!!

During the online April Art Daily 2015 online I hosted,
I personally
challenged myself to create a "hand" block daily
 using various approaches
along with hand dyed or batik fabric.
I blogged daily of my adventure not having a plan
of what to do with the blocks.
It was so much fun researching "hand" formations
and choosing numerous techniques.
I chose to combine them
into this approximately 32  inch X  32 inch Wall Art .
The title comes from something  Basket Artist, Matt Tommey
often asks artists, "What is In Your Hand?"
meaning what has God already given you to work with?
Hand quilted. $895

Hand Painting Fabric - Mickey Lawler Style

While looking for a fabric for the label of "What's In Your Hand?"
I decided to over paint a plain green hand dyed fabric.
This first one is using diluted Pebeo Setacolor Transparent paint
and the scrunch method.
This second piece is trying out a technique a fellow quilter learned in a
workshop with Mickey Lawler of Skydyes
sing a paint brush and salt.
They both came out nice.  I'll use the first one for my label.

to a hurting world through the sale of international artistry.

After researching it more, I am looking forward to using it.
Anyone else tried Moringa Seed Oil?

"Covered" in Long Beach, California

While traveling to Long Beach, California to
care for my 2 and 1 year old grandsons
who just came from  their home in Berlin,
I got to have Nana time, while Mom and Dad
attended a required conference. The city was new to all of us and
walking around with a double stroller felt a bit vulnerable...
until being reminded of I John 2:20.  I/We were covered.

Design Oppoortunity

The Unraveling "Silk Tea" Bag Hand
Design Opportunity from
gave me the opportunity to use a unique fabric
I gleaned recently at a Fiber Arts event.
The "new" hand is fused over the "old" hand.
This piece is ready for the facing edge and label.

Raveling "Silk" Tea Bag Art Update

I created a  5 inch X 4 inch block from a "silk" tea bag.
I suspect the "silk" may in fact be polyester.
As I'm almost finished and hand quilting the border of the Wall Art Quilt now,
this hand has begun to ravel badly even though it was carefully fused.
Interestingly the fusible web shape is still intact on the red batik fabric.
A tidbit of white silk anyone? Other suggestions?

Vinegar For Leather Thimble Repair?

Years ago, I retained  my hands  to quilt away from me using my stronger  thumb
instead of the weaker middle finger...not an easy task for me.
So, now I use 2 thimbles:  a leather one for my thumb
and still a metal one for my middle finger.
The benefit is that I can quilt both ways now.
Recently, I read that putting vinegar on a leather couch
would swell the leather and aid in "healing" the holes.
I'm trying it out with my leather thimble.
Anyone else tried this?

Cross Body Green Knitted Fabric Purse

If you've ever knitted  batik fabric strips, you know it's a bit
challenging on the hands but gives great results.
So when I changed my style from this  Back Pack Knitted Fabric Purse
I re purposed the knitted portion in a smaller simple cross body purse
I added a fun flower fabric along with the quilted section of the
Back Pack Knitted Fabric purse.
