I'm playing in the batik remnants again 

and have begun a new 10"x 10" collage.

 I'm adding embroidery circles of course.

Out Of The Box Group Special Exhibit at the Asheville Quilt Show

The "Out of The Box" group has an exhibit at the Asheville Quilt Show this weekend. 

There are 8 of us and this exhibit is the result 

of a day long challenge that is explained in the photo above.

My piece is completed with 3 large circles

 of improvisational hand embroidery.

Orange & Embracing Fall This Year

There's a lot of folks happy that Fall is approaching.

 Me....Summer is my fave.

 But this year, I am choosing to embrace Fall head on.

 And although I love colorful leaves, 

I am choosing to be thankful for cooler weather, 

gardens ending, wearing closed toed shoes, jackets and Orange.

"New " Duty Chart

New duty chart reflects my style

much better than the last which was black and white. 

Supplies: silver metal ends of frozen juice cans (free)

circles cut from paint swatches (free)

 magnets  (already had from previous project)

and broiler pan rack from thrift store ($1.50)

Hung from batik fabric strip (yup had that too)

Names and meanings on card stock.
Oh, the Entitled, Ungrateful, Grumpy circle
still needs a line through it for NOT!

Hope & Time

After receiving an invitation to a Vision Board Party

and an inquiring as to my "word" for this year,

I began to pray about a particular word for 2015,

 something I've not done previously. 

I felt 2 words rise in my spirit, Hope and Time.
Magazine photos, page from hymnal and Watch face mounted
onto a re-purposed book jacket.

This was a fun project  with fun people 

and this  resulting Vision Board will reside in my studio

to remind me to have HOPE 

and that God is Perfect TIMEing.

Plates For Circle Templates

 

There's something fun about using
what you already have to create something new.
How simple to rotary cut around various sized plates

for circle shapes because they are relatively thin. 

As for the much thicker pizza stone and clear bowl...not so much...

although it does offer a nice circle to trace.

A new piece has begun of neutral grays

accented with red, black and white batik circles

cut using plates and bowls.

I decided to go with the squares and when I 

was laying them out chose to turn the squares into diamonds.

They are hand appliqued and the piece is ready for the next step.

Basted 6 Minute Machine Pieced Circle

Dale Fleming's 6 Minute Circle 

worked wonderfully 

to quickly and precisely "applique" the

batik pieced circle.

Basting pins applied, it's ready to machine quilt.

Decisions For "Simple Balance"

 My challenge for this piece was to draw a simple

design, simplify it and then simplify it again.

Masking tape strips remind me which color

swirl to put in each circle.
