I'm finally to the binding on "the quilt". "Yipee" because it's almost done. I sewed the binding to the back first and am using a speciality stitch to secure it on the front. (Double click on photo to see close up .) Once this quilt is complete, I can finish some other projects in process. Yipee again!

Quilting in Sections
I'm adding in the last section of a king sized quilt. I quilted it in sections, then sewed the fronts together, hand sewed the batting together after cutting out the excess and next, will hand stitch the back sections together. Then, I'll machine quilt in the spaces left from reassembling. It's quite a process, but better than trying to maneuver a whole king sized quilt under the machine.

Back of Soft Book Page
Soft Book Page
Here's the front side of another page for my granddaughter's Soft Book. It's made from colored thick felt which is deckle cut on the edge. It was a left over after making fabric post cards with the local 6th graders in the middle school. I just punched holes in the side with a regular hole punch and will add it to the others which are connected with a binder clip. I'll either mail it to her or take it on my next visit.

Quilted/Knitted Backpack Purse
I designed a Quilted/Knitted Backpack Purse. It's great for keeping my hands free. It's made of knitted strips of batik fabric and then the same quilted fabric purse on top. The lining has pockets for lipstick, cell phone, pen and pencil. It's embellished with my favorite verse stamped on ultrasuede, various buttons, and strips of fabric. Any ideas of how to publish my pattern?

Current "hand" project progress
Here's another peek at my current "hand" art quilt project. (see June 7 entry) I use an 11" Q-snap frame which I prefer for hand quilting. It's portable and a managable size to turn in all directions. You can also see some sleeves on the frame which allow quilting on the edge when attached to the art quilt with brass safety pins. Since I've retrained myself to quilt using my thumb, hand quilting is much easier.

"Preemie Quilt" for Neonatal Unit

6 inch Strip Quilt
This lap quilt is made by piecing smaller pieces into 6 inch wide sections which are then made into a longer strip. After deciding the size I desired, I added 3 inch accent strips of the same fabric to make the project more cohesive. This is a fun way to use left over pieces from other projects to make something "new". I've used this simple technique to make tiny "quilts" for the Preemie babies in the Neonatal unit, a wall hanging for family and a baby quilt.
