Quilted Desk Art & Fabric Post Cards

Here's some examples of the Quilted Desk Art (4"x6" insert) and Fabric Post Cards (mailable 4"x6") that I make to give as gifts and to put in galleries. My desire is 2 fold: 1: To bless others with beautiful quilted art and inspiration through scripture in their homes and 2: To use 1/2 of my profits benefit missions.

Hand Embroidered Guatamalan Skirt

My daughter and her hubby brought back this beautiful hand embroidered skirt from Guatemala for me. It's even more beautiful in person.

Finished Matching Pillow Cases

The pillow cases are finished. I decided to just machine "quilt" the fronts of the cases without batting. They are for decoration any way.

Matching Pillow Cases

I'm using "left over" strips from Jose' and Melanie's king sized quilt (see June 12 post) to make some "matching" pillow cases. They will be the fronts of the cases. The backs and edges will be the same fabric I used for the backing and a border. I'll use the "hot dog" pillow case method. Stay tuned.

Discharged Backing Fabric

My friend Joy once said that I seem to always have at least one fabric in my pieces that I have stamped, dyed or discharged or something! I thought of her as I previewed fabrics for this backing and decided to discharge it to give it some excitement. Swirls, of course! Thanks Joy!

Fabric Dying

My good friend, Carol R. took a dying class at John C. Campbell School last week and showed our Crafting With Kindness group her pieces today. THEN, she gave us all

some muslin that she had already prepared and we played with the left over paint. It's still drying in plastic at her house, so all I have to show for now is my gloves. It
was fun to experiment with stamps, rubber bands under the fabric and then roll over it with dye. Now, what to make with it!

Machine Quilting

I drove yesterday to TN to spend the day with my granddaughter. What fun!! She is almost a year old and is usually intrigued with the pieces I bring to work on while I am there. Yesterday she pulled this unbasted piece out of my bag and showed her approval by hugging it, pulling it apart and finally tasting it too. Later during her long nap I used the escape hatch finish and began quilting it. I also took out the "a" in the verse and replaced it with a capital "A" and think it looks more in proportion.

Fall Leaves

I needed/wanted to make a simple yet colorful piece to put in the Asheville Quilt Guild Boutique next week.... hmmmmm. I am planning on machine quilting it ....hmmmmmmmmm....we'll see. The verse I put on a piece is usually something God is speaking to my heart and this time that's true as well.

Caleb's quilt

I gave Caleb his quilt today. It's made of 6 inch strips. I did some machine wording on it.

Post Card Give Away

Well, our computer died last night so I'm doing this via library. The post card give away is still Wednesday - just leave a comment. I've started a new project that's a bit like Fall. I'll have photos when our computer situation is rectified.

New Shoe Bag

Many years ago Grandma Bessie, who lived with us after her house burned, made me this colorful shoe bag in the first photo. It's well worn and now it's time to replace it. I've used a purple upholstery piece with cotton pockets. It took me longer to divide and pleat and place the pockets than to actually sew it. Notice the extra plain pockets at the bottom in the 3rd photo. I'm not sure what will go in them yet. Hopefully hubby will hang it on the door today.

Button Post Card

I used the buttons for the Carolina Shop Hop on this post card. I simple made a grid using variegated thread and a speciality stitch then machine stitched down the buttons.

Any ideas??

I agreed to make "something" with these buttons for an example for the Carolina Shop Hop. I'm thinking of using them on a patchwork block post card or in a button bracelet. Any ideas?

July Birthday Cards

Here's some of July's Birthday cards that I like to create and send to friends and many family members. I generally make several cards at once (we are a large family). I go ahead and address the envelopes, put the birthday date where the stamp will be placed and they are ready for a balloon to be added before mailing.

Making Fabric Bowls

What great fabric from a friend for a fabric bowl. Here's also the first of a smaller size bowl. These will be for sale in the boutique of the Asheville Quilt Show the first weekend in August.

Pray for America

Here's a small wall hanging I made years ago. It's a true charm quilt using the same pattern shape throughout with each fabric unique.

Online Class Progress

Here's my Daisy Doodle progress. I've added machine stitching embellishement and a dragonfly with I plan to bead later. Now onto Lesson 2.

Handmade Stencil

I made this stencil a few years ago out of a piece of craft foam. I drew my design and carefully cut it away with regular scissors being careful to leave connecting pieces. It's come in handy as I am quilting the last section on my latest "hand" project. (See June 7 & 16 posts.) I add the middle vein of the leaf as I quilt.
