Ginkgo leaf shapes are intriguing and make a great shape for this hand/portable project even if I have no idea what it will become from here.

Look Familiar?
Last year I created my daughter-in-love a wall quilt for her birthday which has lead to a similar piece that she and family member commissioned for a present for Christmas for someone. I rarely make such similar pieces but this one has been fun.

Train Them Thoroughly
Works for me Wednesday is a site with lots of fun information. Here's my tidbit for this week's cleaning theme. We divided the responsibilities for the kitchen, living area and bathroom between all the family members who kept that job for a month. We have a job chart with Velcro pieces that move monthly. The kids got to name the responsibilities. Kitchen jobs were done daily (floor manager, pet manager, dish manager, cook, etc.) while Bathroom (sink, toilet, mirror, floor etc) and living area ( floor manager, dust manager, straightener, etc.) were done weekly. This trained them for their college and beyond days which their spouses are now thankful.

"A Time To Tear And A Time To Mend"
Ok - I admit I like to mend and with 5 kids I've had lots of practice. But yesterday, our church actually canceled regular services to go out into the community to share God's love in many practical ways. (Feeding quarters to laundry mat machines, cutting and delivering wood, packages for soldiers, worship service at local Juvenile Evaluation Center, lunch at local shelter etc.) I went with the group to the local men's shelter and a few of us mended clothes. Actually, I called it triage tailoring. Fast, a bit overwhelming but fun and worth doing again.

Blogger's Quilt Festival - Fall 2009
Blogger's Quilt Festival Fall 2009 is sponsored by Park City Girl. My entry began with a repurposed batik piece and other batik fabric were built around that. The flower, also repurposed from a skirt is embellished with a screen swirl and black beading. The verse, "Wait for the LORD, be strong and take heart, and wait for the LORD." Psalm 27:14 is hand embroidered. Hand quilted and machine signed signature. This one of my favorite pieces.

Cobblestone Blocks Again
The batik bin is out again and Cobblestone Blocks are being created out of remnants to add to the stack of ones remaining ones from the Cross Banner. Notice the embroidered one on the right just waiting to be added to something wonderful.

Butterfly Ties
It takes about 60 repurposed ties that are stenciled with a butterfly for each guys Chrysalis /Journey Flight in our area. Chrysalis, for 15- 18 year old and Journey, for college aged folks, is a weekend opportunity for them to renew or rekindle their commitment to Christ. These butterfly ties are small token reminders of God's love called Agape. It takes a lot of repurposed ties to make this work. For girls Chrysalis/Journey you can see the Butterfly tins and here.
