Day 30 Your 30-Day Art Challenge & Day 59 A Block A Day Challenge

No automatic alt text available.
Day #30: Create a piece of art reflecting your interpretation of God’s love for you.
Participating in this challenge has stretched, encouraged
and allowed part of eternal things with God's artistic army worldwide.
What a thrill.
Look closely and you'll see that my queen sized bed quilt
is now safety pin basted. It is an example of God's love
for me to freely create beauty through my favorite colors
(how He created me), in community with other colorful artists
and a work in progress. Praise HIM and thanks Matt Tommey
This "block" also is my work for the Block A Day Challenge
as I spent much time laying it out and pin basting it today.
I plan to begin quilting a block a day tomorrow.

Day 28 Your 30-Day Art Challenge & Day 57 A Block A Day Challenge

Prompt Day #28: Create a piece of art based on your favorite color.
Today's prompt coincides with my A Block A Day Challenge.
Creating the remaining row of my bed quilt that I have been
working on since January 1st brings great delight.
It also is a compilation of my fabric batik fabrics
in my favorite colors - teals, purples, blues and greens.
It also reminds me that I can do all things through Christ
who strengthens me in this large queen sized bed quilt top
when I generally create much smaller wall quilts and gifts.

Day 27 Your 30-Day Art Challenge & Day 56 A Block A Day Challenge

Prompt Day #27: Go through an old sketchbook
and find an idea you never completed and finish it.
My old sketchbook drawing is from 9 years prior.
Pilfering through my remnant basket from my bed quilt for
fabrics to create this 6 inch X 4 inch
Quilted Art Mini.  Additional embellishments
of screen and paint.
Great progress on the additional 10 inch strip
needed to complete the bed quilt top.

Day 26 Your 30-Day Art Challenge & Day 55 A Block A Day Challenge

Prompt Day #26: Create a piece of art based
on the last difficulty you had in your life and how you overcame it.
God has a way of making beauty from ashes, flowers grow from
dead seed & renewing my mind with truth.
"If God is for us, who can be against us?"
Romans 8:31
I've estimated I need 12 more blocks for the top
of my bed quilt - and maybe a few coping strips later.
7 batik blocks for today.

Day 25 Your 30-Day Art Challenge & Day 54 A Block A Day Challenge

Image may contain: food
Prompt Day #25: Choose something very small,
magnify it and create it in detail with your chosen medium.
Buttons are tiny useful and delightful treasures.
My enlarged "buttons " are created from batik fabric circles
with actual buttons for the "holes".
As mentioned yesterday, the bed quilt top is a row
shy. So, more blocks...batik fabrics of course.

Day 24 Your 30-Day Art Challenge & Day 53 A Block A Day Challenge

Image may contain: drawing
Prompt Day #24: Create a piece of art using your non-dominant hand.
Although I've taught myself several non dominant hand tasks (teeth brushing, computer mouse use, stirring etc.) this prompt reminded that retraining can be done.
I choose to complete the backing for the quilt since it was still in process and
on the floor.  It's done and perfect size.

No automatic alt text available.
Prompt Day #23: Think "over, under" and create something woven.
Batik fabric strips, ribbon, embroidery floss,
and cotton yarn weaving on green cotton backing.
More progress in creating a backing for my bed quilt
adding smaller sections.  I'm thinking this
backing may be a fun reverse side to my bed quilt.

Day 22 Your 30-Day Art Challenge & Day 51 A Block A Day Challenge

Image may contain: drawing
Prompt Day #22: Watch your favorite movie
and then create an artful response.
Mr. Holland's Opus - inspiring others through using your gifts.
Still in 4 large sections,  anticipating possible machine quilting,
I needed to completely piece this all together.
So I got the cotton quilt batting out to "rest" and was so excited
about beginning the hand quilting process, pieced the top completely
and when checked the size - since it's been completely improvisational -
it was about 10 inches too short.  SO - more blocks to be pieced
while the batting with continue to "rest".

Day 21 Your 30-Day Art Challenge & Day 50 A Block A Day Challenge

Image may contain: 1 person, smiling, shoes
Prompt Day #21: Read a favorite passage of scripture
and then re-write it in a way that’s personal to you.
 Psalm 18:19 & 20
"He brought me out into a spacious place;
he rescued me because he delighted in me.
The Lord has dealt with me according to my righteousness;
according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me."

When I was backed into a corner physically or emotionally,
God brought me out and into an open place where I could move freely and feel free.
My Master covered me with His righteousness,
His justice, Himself, saw my innocence in the situation
and has gave me a reward.
A blue flower batik combined with a teal /brown
batik for today's block for my bed quilt backing.

Day 20 Your 30-Day Art Challenge & Day 49 A Block A Day Challenge

Prompt Day #20: Write a poem in response to one of your favorite pieces of art.
This is one of my favorite creations to date.
"...be healed"
Familiar design of previous healing art,
Spirit prompted again stitching start.
Healing the goal,
In quiet moments sewed,
Beauty from ashes again.
Obedience allows the  balm to unfold
Healing through art the goal.
And then
Released to heal others in unique new space,
To soothe and heal through grace
Today's block for the back of my  bed quilt features a multicolored batik
with a blue striped batik.

Day 18 Your 30-Day Art Challenge & Day 47 A Block A Day Challenge

Prompt Day #18: Create a piece of art in response
to your favorite worship song.
Current favorite worship song is
Good Good Father by Chris Tomlin.
Gelli printed purple onto hand painted fabric with
a female silhouette mask with
arms upraised to the Good Good Father.
Hand stamped PRAISE overlay.
Expressing what a Quilted Art piece means to you
in a title doesn't always come easily.
Inner Threshold's title came from the other challenge
 I'm participating in - Your 30-Day Art Challenge's
challenge to create a poem on Day #15.
And although the lines in the clear stained glass door
downtown Asheville inspired this composition,
my surprise reflection in the door noticed later
spoke to my soul as well.

Prompt Day #17: Create a piece of art based on your
favorite “inspiration piece” from another artist.

I have been especially drawn to collage on dictionary pages lately.
Here's my watercolor female silhouette collage who
 DREAMS of JOYFUL LIBERTY.
STRETCH is on the pattern tissue paper.
I'm making great progress on creating a backing for my

Day 16 Your 30-Day Art Challenge & Day 45 A Block A Day Challenge

Prompt for Day #16: Create a piece of art to encourage
a friend by asking the Holy Spirit to give you a picture,
word or feeling for them then find a scripture to accompany it.
To a grieving friend, I sent a photo of this composition ( "Inner Threshold")
 and an explanation
of how Ezekiel 40:7 speaks of how even the alcoves are
measured and under the care of our Father.
I also sent a copy of my poem.
INNER THRESHOLD
Not all thresholds are pleasant entrances to cross,
Especially those involving loss.
Preferred thresholds appear exciting and fun,
With high hopes of new adventures to come.
Still life allows thresholds of all kinds,
designed to strengthen soul and renew mind.
I trust the One who leads and remains through each threshold,
Is refining my heart stronger and bold.
Today's block is made up of a bright lime batik
and a purple swirl batik fabric.

Prompt Day #15: Write a poem that expresses
the essence of your spiritual journey over the last 12 months.
Interestingly, I created a couple pieces of art using a door as the theme,
which is the focus of my poem today.

Prompt Day #9:
Create a piece of art no larger than 3”x 3”
 from your latest inspiration.
Awhile back, my daughter who lives abroad and I
both bought small journals for creating 3 inch x 3 inch art doodles
to share the fun of art together. So, I chose to doodle in that today.
The bottom right corner section is complete
adding coping strips and blocks together.
Now - do I hand or machine quilt a block a day
going forward?

Day 7 Your 30-Day Art Challenge & Day 36 A Block A Day Challenge

I combined the challenges today.
Your 30-Day Art Challenge prompt
Day #7: Choose your favorite scripture
and create something in your favorite artistic medium
to express the scripture.
I have so many "favorite" scriptures - depending
on what the LORD is currently speaking to my heart.
Today I chose Proverbs 31:25
"Strength and honor are her clothing,
and she can laugh at the time to come."

My favorite medium is batik fabrics

and currently incorporating female silhouettes in them.
This design was inspired from a stained glass door
downtown Asheville.

This 'Block"  also works as my
Block A Day Challenge.  Taking small
pieces of batik fabric and creating larger blocks is fun for me.

Super SEW Party -Day 6 Your 30-Day Art Challenge & Day 35 A Block A Day Challenge

One of my favorite parties of the year
is an annual Super Sew Party - no football included.
Over the years the group has changed but we gather with
lots of yummy snacks and create for an extended time.
SO MUCH FUN!
Your  30-Day Art Challenge prompt for
Day #6: Take a walk,
collect 5 things and incorporate them
into a piece of original art.
Interestingly as I walked in the rain today,
I gleaned some surprisingly representative items:
A heart shaped leaf (my heart), a
silver thread( being refined like silver), a penny (His provision) ,
a half hickory nut shell (He carries me)
and a really white rock (He is my rock) .
Unintentionally, this seems a bit like a sail boat.
Today's Block A Day Challenge
is from a green swirl batik fabric surrounding
a deep purple batik fabric.

Watercolor - something new for me.
This is such a fun teal batik fabric
which is paired with a modeled dark green batik.

Day 4 Your 30-Day Art Challenge & Day 33 A Block A Day Challenge

I'ts so fun to be a part of this worldwide Art Group on Facebook.
Today's prompt:
Day #4: Design your own self-portrait on how it would look
to live out of God's abundance, rather than your own self-image.
Bright yellow (happy) swirl fabric female silhouette
on a teal (healing) swirl fabric.
"released" in fuchsia thread.
I created several female silhouettes in 2017
following this prompt without realizing it.
Another larger section added to and connected.
I had to tape/push pin it up on my basement wall to
process the bottom right side.
