Go Green! returned

Go Green! by Quilting Arts Magazine requested entries that were 5 inches square and had a recycled theme. Mine was hand quilted and included many recycled blue batik tidbits, recycled window screen for a design element and binding, recycled beads from previous projects, recycled gold embossing powder and a recycled piece cut into a spiral from brass ornaments made last Christmas. Upon it's return I noticed how more contrast would have been better. So, I've gold embossed the verse on a lighter fabric and will attached over the original one. I'm thinking of sewing it to a painted canvas but not sure what color to paint it yet.

Fun Mail & A Question

Oh- I'm still seeking ideas of price for the individual pieces in my series. Check back starting yesterday.

#5 Done + extras

I sewed some square in a square blocks from my batik remnant bin. I even had a verse already stamped and embossed in there. Woohoo! So, #5 in the series is now ready. Next, I have to name the pieces and price them. They are 8x10 quilt pieces on 10x14 black painted canvas. SUGGESTIONS for price???

I may keep on making more blocks for a future project. and the really small remnants made it to a post card.

#3 #4

Just to be sure I had plenty of time, I checked out the deadline for submissions of an exhibit I am applying to yesterday. I THOUGHT it was Oct 30 which gave me a month more but it's Oct 3!!! YIKES.

So, I got busy and finished up #3 and #4 in the series. I plan to make 1 more - I hope. OH- and if #4 looks suspiciously similar to the piece I made for Collage Mania which 100% proceeds benefits American Cancer Society, it is!

King Sized Art Quilt

It took me about 2 years off and one to piece and hand quilt this king sized art quilt for our bed. I designed it to represent our family at the time. The large aqua heart represents my husband, the large purple heart for me and each of the 4 kids had their favorite smaller pieced heart (on the bottom right) that also included remnants from their graduation quilts. The small yellow heart (bottom left) represented a baby that died and has preceded us to heaven but later after we adopted came to represent the 5th child. In the borders are hand quilted scripture verses about marriage. The last photo is of the back and pieced heart label. After all the designing, piecing and quilting I realized that it would probably look much better on a huge wall, which we don't have but it's been great to sleep under.

Published Quilted Art

Recently, I discovered a July 2008 issue of the magazine, The Laurel of Asheville, and saw a photo of the quilted art piece that I donated for silent auction at the Asheville Quilt Guild. What a pleasant surprise. The photo doesn't show how the bottom edge was at an intended angle resembling a table cloth. After many tries, this is the best photo I could get from the magazine.

Winter Piece

Thanks for the comments on "scrap" vs "remnant" yesterday. Now, I just need help to know how to reply to comments.

This is the beginning of the next piece in the series. I had pieced the background awhile back for a different purpose but like how it works for this. I want it to have a winter look which is challenging to do now since the leaves are just beginning to show color. The trees are ironed over freezer paper and the trunks will be also and tucked behind the trees when I decide what fabric to use for them. Thanks Carol for the remnant for the middle tree.
