I prefer a plain leather thumb thimble since I quilt mostly

moving away from my body. I created this new one

from some gleaned thick leather, pre-punching the stitching

holes and using my old one for a pattern. It only took a few minutes.

Today's block is blue Pearle Cotton thread rectangular spiral.

Years ago, I retained my hands to quilt away from me using my stronger thumb

instead of the weaker middle finger...not an easy task for me.

So, now I use 2 thimbles: a leather one for my thumb

and still a metal one for my middle finger.

The benefit is that I can quilt both ways now.

Recently, I read that putting vinegar on a leather couch

would swell the leather and aid in "healing" the holes.

I'm trying it out with my leather thimble.
