Quilter In Training

OK - maybe not a quite a Quilter in training yet,
but my granddaughter does like to play with fabric.
She was helping "sort" the pretty colors and "arranging" circles for
a Yo Yo Cat Doll that I'll be making for her.
Obviously, we had a fun day!

Fabric Post Card Backgrounds

It's a bit challenging to find black and white batik fabrics,
so I was thrilled to see them in the scarps I mentioned receiving yesterday.
I think they add a lot of fun to these Fabric Art Post Card backgrounds.
Thanks Cindy L.

Potential

When Cindy L. recently passed along these batik "scraps",
I saw Fabric Art Post Card potential. Woohoo!
Thanks Cindy L.

Valentines

This Fabric Quilted Art Valentine has a piece of screen, a piece of white tulle and a piece of organza ribbon which highlights the appliqued heart that reminds me
"Love is Patient, Love is Kind."

Necktie Holder

While sorting Hubby's ties, I realized the necktie holder that Grandma Bessie
made by covering 2 metal hangers with yarn was worn out. So I crocheted a chain stitch around this plastic hanger using 2 yarns.

It will hold the remaining ties wonderfully.

Making My Valentines

I like to send out Fabric Post Cards for my Valentines.
Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays probably because
I like hearts and having a special day to focus on love.
"Love is patient, love is kind, Love does not envy; is not boastful; is not conceited; does not act improperly; is not selfish; is not provoked; does not keep a record of wrongs; finds no joy in unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails." I Corinthians 13:4-8

Valentine Fabric Bowl

This Valentine Fabric Bowl will also be in the

Valentine Auction at ClothFiberWorkshop.com.

It's 3D and was fun to make.

The second photo shows the dimension better.

Valentine Auction

"Love Is Of God" (I John 4:8) is one of my pieces for the

Valentine Auction at ClothFiberWorkshop.com.

I created this fun piece awhile back but recently redid the applique and signed my name.

Label

I fused this label over the opening I used to turn the quilt.

New Threads

I replenished my lemon yellow and red threads. Notice the purple magnetic pin holder. It's great. Hardly any pins on the floor since it's arrival. The small kids Fiskars cut fabric pretty well and threads too. I have a fabric selvage on the handle to identify them easily.

Beading Done

The beads on this piece represent the seeds God plants in our lives.

Signature Added

After seeing other fiber artists sign their names on the front of their art quilts using the sewing machine, I was determined to try it myself. I've signed my name on several of my most recent quilted art and it still needs more work. But it's not as hard as I once thought it was.

WHAT?? No Lemon Yellow Thread??

Since I wanted to machine applique the flower centers with lemon yellow color,
it was time to improvise with some lemon yellow colored embroidery floss.
Hubby helped separate a long piece of floss that I wound on a thread spool.
It worked well but I plan to put regular lemon yellow thread on my shopping list.

EKG Stitch

I did more machine applique on the wall hanging using the EKG stitch I saw on patsythompsondesigns.com. It's an easy stitch that got better as I went along.

Progress Made/ Suggestions Welcome

Flowers are machine appliqued on and I am liking how this is taking shape. However, there's one section that still needs something and I welcome suggestions. Since I'd rather not reveal the whole piece yet since the recipient may be lurking, if you would like to see a full photo to offer suggestions just leave a comment and I'll email you. Thanks so much.

Fabric Scraps

This clear bag is attached to the sewing counter with masking tape very close to my sewing machine. That makes it quite handy for disposing fabric scraps and threads. I just untape it, empty it and retape it until full again. Thanks Carol R. for the idea.

Red Batiks

I've completed piecing the background and machine appliqued the blue marble piece.

All batiks - of course.

One must love her son to use her favorite red batiks on his wall hanging.

He... Will Be Faithful To Complete It

I often sang Scripture choruses with my children when they were younger and sometimes would insert their name in it. Philippians 1:6 - "He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it." was a favorite which makes it an appropriate verse for this piece for my son who is getting married. I've chosen the fabrics, completed hand embroidering the verse and have a general idea of how I desire to create it.

Fabric Journals

The girls and I made fabric journals today. We fused fabric to card stock, cut notebook paper to fit and "sewed" it in. They got to use the alphabet stamps to stamp their name on the front label (which I covered for the photo). The closure is an attached ribbon that wraps around a button. The ribbon was held in place at first with the fused circle but later sewed down so it will last longer. It was the first time either of them sewed a button.

Baby Doll Quilts

I have a couple of little girls visiting and we made small quilts for their baby dolls. It was a lot of fun sewing 6 inch squares, pinning and using the real sewing machine!! One chose flower fabrics and the other chose butterfly fabrics. What fun!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

"See, I Am Doing A New Thing"
was one of my first art quilts.
I've had so many "firsts" in 2008 and look forward to the
new "firsts" the LORD has for my life in 2009. He is so Good!
