Revised Knitted Preemie Hat For Neo Natal Unit - Day 267 A Block A Day Challenge

My local Neo Natal Unit prefers these tiny

 knitted Preemie Hats without the pompom,

 so I revised

my pattern to create a pompom type tip

 that is part of the creation so it is more secure. 

I usually make 3 a month since they are quick.

I hope you'll give them a try too. 

Revised Knitted Preemie Hat

Supplies: 

2 pair of US Size #7  - 18 inch circular needles 

( double pointed needles can be substituted) 

Soft cotton or acrylic 4 ply yarn

5 stitch markers, Tapestry needle, Scissors

Directions:

Cast on 48 stitches placing a stitch marker every 8 stitches.

Join in the round, being careful not to twist stitches. 

Knit in the round until Preemie  hat is 4 inches long. 

Decrease for crown of hat:

Row 1 -Add stitch markers every 8 stitches.

Row 2 - K6 K2Tog Slip Stitch marker. Repeat all the way around.

Row 3 - K5 K2tog. Slip Stitch marker. Repeat all the way around.

 Row 4 - K4 K2tog. Slip Stitch marker. Repeat all the way around. 

Row 5 - K3 K2tog. Slip Stitch marker. Repeat all the way around.

 Row 6 - K2 K2tog. Slip Stitch marker. Repeat all the way around.

 Row 7 - K1 K2tog. Slip Stitch marker. Repeat all the way around.

 Row 8 - K2tog. Remove  Stitch marker. Repeat all the way around. 

With 6 remaining stitches, knit around 3 times creating the top. 

Cut yarn leaving a 4 inch tail. 

Using tapestry needle thread yarn tail though remaining 6 stitches and cinch together.

Knot yarn to Preemie Hat Crown and weave  thread tail on the  inside of Preemie Hat.

Options:  Add stripes after 1 inch from beginning.

Variegated yarn creates natural "stripes".

Tiny Knitting & Day 167 A Block A Day Challenge.

A new tiny knitted Preemie hat for the local Neo Natal unit begun.

I cut some fern leaves from the woods this morning to pair with and orange day lily arrangement from the yard. How interesting that today's batik Free Style Cobblestone Block is deep purple and green fern. Hand quilted in aqua Pearle cotton re rectangular spiral for Day 167 A Block A Day Challenge.

Go Panthers!! Knitted Preemie Hats

I'm not a football fan per se but I do sew and/or create

Knitted  Preemie Hats for the local Neo Natal Unit  a lot of while hubby enjoys the games.

And although I go to a Super Sew Party on Super Bowl Sunday with my friends,

I will be checking in on the score from time to time.

I do live in North Carolina you know!

I plan to turn in these hats ASAP so some new Daddy can share his football 

love with a new little one.
