Aqua & Grey Fiber Art Bird House - SOLD

Every now and then I enjoy creating a 3D Fiber Art project.

My challenge was to only use aqua & grey batik fabrics

and include some fun surprises....

Like this hand made purple button,

bird stamp I created from a playground motif

I saw while visiting Berlin this Spring that is discharged on the grey,

my machine signature,

and my favorite - 

machine written section from Psalm 84:3

"even the sparrow finds a home".

This fun bird house is on it's way to the WNC  State Fair..

Improvisational Hand Dyed Heart For @Ayearinstitches

Beginning a new project often to have a hand embroidery palate

 is part of the adventure for me in the #ayearinstitches Challenge.

 This hand dyed improvisational heart includes some of my favorite colors .

2 strands purple DMC Feather Stitch & Y Stitch surrounds the lightest sections.

2 strands blue DMC Colonial Knots on the blue hand dyed fabric in 3 sections.

"Girlfriends" Completed

Somehow I forgot to post about this piece once it was completed and 

mounted on the 18 X 24 inch frame. 

3rd in an  spontaneous series, "Girlfriends" is 3 free spirited females in black and white that are hand appliqued & embroidered  with fuchsia, aqua and green threads on a hand dyed aqua green background & lime border intersected with fuchsia and purple accents.

This composition exemplifies the innate need that girls and women have for each other. 

Created as part of #ayearinstitches, "Girlfriends" was hand embroidered a bit day by day and finally hand quilted in white cotton thread.

Post Cards For Team Bailey Bird

My 14 year old niece, Bailey 

was diagnosed with Leukemia early March of this year.

A postcard campaign has begun and of course mine is a fabric postcard.

If you would liek to send her a postcard of love and prayer,

message me and I'll send you the address.  

Postcards will be read to Bailey until she is able to read them for herself!

"Girlfriends" Border - #ayearinstitches

I've really enjoyed this composition of female shapes.

It's 3rd in a series that I did not intend. 

The border is almost completely quilted with

white quilting thread.

Embroidery Quilt Collage Continues

Day 178 #ayearinstitches 
Another repetitive strengthening design today although a bit larger. 
2 strands lime DMC Colonial Knots on the mixed blue Straight Stitch flowers

 with 3 strands Straight Stitch for the stems.

Fashion fabrics are hand embroidered/ collaged through batting and backing at the same time.

I like this technique.

Bird Cage Art Collage | A Year In Stitches | April Art Daily

Day 30 of the April Art Daily 2016

yielded the center section of this composition where 

2 aqua birds were stenciled with embroidered eye

 surrounded by a hand embroidered bird cage. 

Now it's a part of a Bird Art Collage where I added more embroidery 

as part of the A Year In Stitches Challenge.

2 strands teal DMC Back Stitch around the 2 birds in a cage

 & also Lazy Daisy Stitch outline.

Day 23 February Art Daily & Day 53 #ayearinstitches

2 days in early February were used to hand embdoider this collage background

for this composition. Then Day 3 began these

daily flowers which have been such fun to create.   Combining the two challenges of February Art Daily and #ayearinstitches has been good guidelines. 

A client has requested this piece and desires a section  of the verse

from Matthew 6:28 -
"flowers of the field grow" hand embroidered. 

So just a few more flowers before that.

2017 Have a HeART for Big Brothers Big Sisters

I had never heard of 

Have a HeART forBig Brothers Big Sisters

until last year.  And I quickly created a Quilted Art HeART

to donate for the Valentine's Day Fund Raiser event. 

This year I've started a bit early and am 

creating one very similar that will also be mounted 

on a black 10 inch X 10 in Cradle Board. 

Hand embroidery and unique buttons to be added.

Neo Natal Knitted Preemie Hat Pattern & Tutorial

As the weather cools, I find knitting a tiny Preemie Hat 

for the local Neo Natal Unit quite satisfying.

I use up bits of yarn and pray for the little one who will receive it 

along with their family.

Black Lace Shirt Extender

Before now I've added batik fabric to the bottom

 of a few of my blouses

and have been happy with the result.

Now I've sewn a black lace onto the bottom

of a camisole so it can be worn under

all my shirts.  Very simple quick solution.
