Rust Dying Fabric | Orange....Me?

Image may contain: food
Day 317 #ayearinstitches
A fiber artist friend challenged our group to rust dye
a remnant from the mill her relatives ran many years ago.
I gathered tomato paste and cans and lids
and put my piece outside,
prayed with vinegar and waited for the elements to create design.
Several days later I looked and the fabric was
under a layer
of red clay silt from recent rains and very orange.
 After several washings,
it's ready for embroidery layered on batik fabrics.
2 strands teal Running Stitch and Cross Stitch.

Handmade Aqua Vinyl Clutch

My Fiber Arts Alliance group had a workshop
on creating our own vinyl sheet using
bits and pieces of fabric and threads.
It was a quick process and everyone's came out
so unique and clever.
I used remnants from my latest project
and followed the teacher, Denise's great directions
to create this vinyl clutch.  It would be a great gift idea.

FAA Show & Tell

Sally created this wonderful piece from hand dyed fabrics
in a class with Patsy Thompson.
I didn't catch the name of this piece's creator
but it combines her Girl Scout sash with the sleeve
of her mom's uniform with the patches sewn on,
along with her hat and a photo.  Great memories.

Fiber Arts Alliance Show & Tell

Sally's project from her online class combines hand embroidery with variations of machine stitching in this fun and finished piece.
Next, she created this portrait of her wood working hubby complete with wood shavings for facial hair, part of one of his shirts,  metal nuts for eye and tape measuring fabric for the border and backing.  Notice the No Change button.
Peggy used resist dyed wool for his unique fiber art piece and added beading and fringe.
Heather used a wash away stabilizer for this colorful fiber scarf and crocheted the edge for a perfect finish.  There are so many wonderful Fiber Artists in our group.

FAA Show & Tell

Fiber Arts Alliance is always inspiring
even when challenging weather causes
sparse attendance.
Ann knitted and felted this wonderful purse and
even though she didn't like how the chenille yard
didn't felt, the consensus was that it added
fun interest.
See the zipper closure/decoration on this
fun loop scarf made from ribbed fabric.
Great accent piece.

CONGRATS & New Fiber ARt Idea

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me"
Philippians 4:13
is the highlighted verse on this
new fiber art idea while playing in my batik remnant bin.
Can you guess what is the base for the art?
Congratulations to Elizabeth whose name was drawn for the 1000th Post Give Away.

Gleaned Inked Post Cards

These "Go with the ink flow" post cards were gleaned from Marlene at our latest FAA meeting.  I used some colored pencils to highlight some elements of them before mailing them off as  "Thank You" post cards.

More Fiber Art Alliance Show & Tell

Karen created these wonderful leaves to accompany her fabulous dolls.
Hopefully, she's going to do a demo in the near future :)
Robin's book is from an envelope mingle where artists create envelopes from various fibers and they are mingled so each artist can have a fun collection.
Carol brought more of her hand made books which feature various treasures and embellishments.
What a creative group!

Fiber Arts Alliance Show & Tell

Our Fiber Art Alliance group consists of fiber artists of all mediums.  Show & Tell is always very inspiring.
Christy created this fun scarf using a water soluable stabilizer and remnants.

Marie brought this class sample that she sewed out of batiks and curvy seams.
Gen had fun using up fiber remnants by couching them on this whimsical piece in circles and over seams.

I missed the name of the creator of this felted wool piece that highlighted the hand dyed flowers of Nancy.
More to come.

More Fiber Arts Alliance Show & Tell

These Show & Tell pieces are all from Dottie who is quite prolific.  First she created a collage piece using recycling fabric and found objects.
Next, her Fabric Zentangles were fun creation.

She uses the pull tab from food products (Orange Juice containers etc.) for hanging smaller quilted pieces.  How clever.
Finally, her brown piece also highlights found objects as she enjoys repurposing items.

Linda painted, dyed and printed on this fun and colorful silk banners.
Ann used some gleaned upholstery renmants and buttons to combine for this great purse.

I didnt' catch the name of the creator of this beautiful piece which was from a study in the color wheel.

Hats For Me??

Since I had #1 in the gift exchange game with Fiber Arts Alliance Christmas party, I was able to make the last choice of all the gifts given.  There were so many wonderful gifts, but I chose this fun felted wool hat that is embellished with beading.  The giver said she made it as a basket but the original person who chose it immediately put it on their head and for ever more it was deemed a hat!
This fun blue hat came in the mail from my fabulous daughter and it matches a scarf she knitted for me awhile back.  Wow - now I have 2 fun hats!!

The Fiber Arts Alliance is such a fun and creative group.
This hat/name tag is a great creation and Deb wore it proudly!
Sorry for the fuzzy photo of the other name tags.
Guess Deb has no excuse not to wear one now....
not that everyone doesn't already know who our
Fearless Organizer is already!
Merry Christmas DEB!

#43 More Blessed To Give / Thanks DEB

As a surprise "Thank You" to Deb, who keeps our Fiber Arts Alliance Group organized, many of us created name tags for her.  She was successful in having us created them for ourselves, but never got around to creating one for herself.  Now she has several to choose from to enjoy at our meetings.
Don't forget to enter the 700th Post Give Away!
