Same Reasons

Finally moving on this piece again prompted me
to wonder why I get "stuck" with a piece.
*There's something I don't like about it
*Time doesn't seem available
* Fatigue
*Different fabric or supplies needed
And yet, I realized that those can be the
same reasons
to press on and be creative because it energizes me.

Beet Juice Dying

While boiling our first beets from our garden for supper,
hubby suggested something I was already considering...
putting fabric in the beet juice afterward to dye it.
The beets were wonderful,  the fabric...
a bit light for my taste.

"For Nothing Is Impossible With God" - Update

I'm still procrastinating about pursuing packing
for the pattern I've designed from this piece.
In the meantime, I added beads and buttons and am entering it

Knitting Fabric

I began knitting my purse on these size 8 needles and it was really tight. So...

I restarted it on these bigger needles and it's much easier.

Teaching In Ohio

While visiting my daughter recently, I had the opportunity to teach Free Style Cobblestones to 11 year old Lauren while her mom watched too.  Lauren quickly learned the technique and spent the afternoon creating more blocks. I wish you could see the pink John Deer fabric in the center of her first block.  I'm glad to know the technique is easy for any skill level although.....

these trophies and prizes are just a sampling of Lauren's from her recent successes at the Trumbull County Fair in her work with cows, goats, sewing etc. etc.  Very impressive Lauren!

Forgotten Treasure

All hand pieced batik fabric , this wall hanging was created for my daughter when she was a missionary to Paraguay.  It was just recently returned to her, as she is currently in the states.  Imagine my delight to see it again hanging on the wall in the room where I slept as I visited her this past week. The verse is in Spanish  to the right of the cross.  I  had forgotten this treasure of a piece and how much I liked it.

Another all batik piece graced my daughter's dining area.
Thanks for a wonderful visit Melanie and treasuring the creations I give you.

Knitted Purse Fabric

GW Boutique (Goodwill) was the spot where I found this batik rayon fabric which I plan to cut into 1/4 inch strips and knit into my next purse!  I'm thinking the waist ties would be great for the shoulder strap.  Stay tuned.

More Surface Design

Meg shared her expertise and experience with the Fiber Arts Alliance of using Set- A- Color to paint fabrics.  She creates wonderful landscapes of the mountains where she resides.  She also gave information of dying with dirt!

Shibori Demo

This month's demos were about surface design.  Norma demonstrated wrapping this silk scarf on a large piece of PVC pipe before dying it.  Her work is beautiful.  See the scarf she is wearing.

Fiber Arts Alliance

What inspiration abounds as women from many cities gather to share their creativity in Fiber Arts.
Anita   (who drives a few hours to meet with the group) is hand appliqueing the circles for a class sample in the first photo and is almost finished with the string pieced wall quilt in the second photo.  Aren't they lovely!

Update - "She Can Laugh"

Machine quilting has begun with barely visible quilting in black in the centers of the Free Style Cobblestone blocks on  "She Can Laugh At The Days To Come".  Next I've begun quilting differently in each block using somewhat matching thread.

Still Verseless

Hand pieced, hand quilted, sleeve attached...
 now for a verse.
I always pray about a piece as I am creating it, for the recipient, the specific verse that the Lord desires for them.  Usually, I know and have embroidered it already - way before this point.
So far, I'm not sure what verse to embroider on this piece.
PS to a no-reply comment - I often schedule to post at 2 AM while I'm still snoozing.

Thankful For Independance

I'm thanking God today for the many who have served to defend, secure and continue the freedom we enjoy in the USA.  I'm especially thankful for my nephew, Zach who is currently serving.

Another Note To Self

When you continually pilfer through your remnant bag
and say "nah" at certain ones, it's time to pass them along.

Note To Self

These remnants are from the "all hand" wall hanging which is almost complete which is from the remnants of my bed quilt completed a few years ago.
Note to self: When you are "over" certain fabrics from a project, don't start another project with them just because they are already cut!
