Out Of The Box Group Special Exhibit at the Asheville Quilt Show

The "Out of The Box" group has an exhibit at the Asheville Quilt Show this weekend. 

There are 8 of us and this exhibit is the result 

of a day long challenge that is explained in the photo above.

My piece is completed with 3 large circles

 of improvisational hand embroidery.

The judges comment suggested a bid more hand

sewing on the binding, so I did that

Moda Jelly Roll Race @ Asheville Quilt Show

I am excited to be on a team for a Jelly Roll Race at the Asheville Quilt Show

ModaFabrics .  Basically, Moda Fabrics donates

 a Jelly Roll ( 2 1/2 inch strips of coordinating fabrics)

and the team competes to put it together into a small quilt which is later completed and donated to Community quilts.  It's a win/win for everyone. 

It should be lots of fun!

"What's In Your Hand?"

 

This wall hanging is back from the Asheville Quilt Show

and ready for sale in my Etsy Shop.

During the online April Art Daily 2015 online I hosted, I personally challenged myself to create a "hand" block daily using various approaches along with hand dyed or batik fabric.
I blogged daily of my adventure not having a specific plan of what to do with the blocks.
It was so much fun researching "hand" formations and choosing numerous techniques.
I chose to combine them into this approximately 32 inch X 32 inch Wall Art . 2nd photo is the "Hand" label on the back of the Wall Art.

The title comes from something Basket Artist, Matt Tommey often asks artists, "What is In Your Hand?" meaning what has God already given you to work with?

"Renewing" $850

Preparing for a trip, I quickly cut circles from

blue, red and green batik fabrics to

hand applique in Bull's Eye Circles.

Those circles became "Trust In The Lord".

Of course there were extra fabrics which over time

were pieced into more Bull's Eye Circles.

Each year, in memory of a friend I create a completely

"Hand" piece.

"Renewing" is completely hand appliqued and hand pieced.

Hanging Sleeve - A New (to me) Way

 The hanging sleeve means my creation

"A Crown Of Beauty Instead"  $450

is complete and it's ready for the showing.

Recently upon entering the Asheville Quilt Show,

I learned a "new" to me way to create the sleeve

to allow for the hanging rods used at the Show.

 

Carolina Lilies Go Hawaiian

I recently received a copy of a book

where I had the privilege of helping create a quilt

that was a finalist in a competition

for a Carolina Lily quilt block.

Miniature Best Of Show - AQG

Congratulations to Mary Kay Mounton, Miledgeville, GA

for her stunning miniature which won Best of Show at the

Asheville Quilt Show which goes until Sunday at 5.

There are over 200 wonderful quilts in the show

 along with quite a variety of

great gifts in the Boutique.

"SING"

"Sing" will be one on my quilted art pieces for sale

in The Rotary Show which is in conjunction with

the Asheville Quilt Guild Show will be located

 in the Biltmore Square Mall near Dillards. 

 Last year there were several vendors

there as well as beautiful quilts.

"For Nothing Is Impossible With God" - Update

I'm still procrastinating about pursuing packing

for the pattern I've designed from this piece.

In the meantime, I added beads and buttons and am entering it

 in the  Embellished Wall Hanging category of the

 Asheville Quilt Show which is August 6-8.
