HeArt Encore | Embroidery Time

I had so much fun creating  this

Have A HeArt for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Fundraiser,

I am preparing  to hand embroider another

composition similar from my Scrap Vortex box.

Now to decide what embroidery accents to add.

Clergy Stole Completed

Earlier this year I took the challenge from Crazy Mom Quilts

to re-purpose  tiny remnants and create "new" fabric from them.

The  Scrap Vortex QAL  fabric I created has found it's way again into 

this Reversible  Clergy Stole Side 1.

Side 2 of this Clergy Stole incorporated 2 of the 

 Hand Embroidered Seed Stitched

Oak & Poppy leaves

that I stitched over Thanksgiving

along with Green batik fabrics.  

There's also some Hand stamped  and discharged areas.

I'm happy to see there's been a

renewed interest in hand sewing and embroidery.

There's actually a  Slow Stitching Movement.

I know I enjoy having something to hand sew at the ready.

This piece incorporates a section I pieced

during the Scrap Vortex Quilt A Long .

It's for an upcoming Wedding Gift ~ 

thus the hand embroidered verse,

"No longer two but one" Matthew 19:6

 Fun playing in the batik remnants,

much learned in Quilt As You Go technique,

and now the sleeve is hand sewn.

 I'm  ready for the label.

I'm not thrilled with the title.

Things Learned While Quilt As You Go

 1- Cut excess batting after joining rows carefully

so you don't have to add a tiny strip of batting later.

2- Stay at least 1 1/2 inches away from edge to be joined

and don't leave open ended sections.

Possible yet, there's lots of starts and stops and thread.  

 See photos for some of the many threads that will need attention.

3 - Consider somewhat larger sections to quilt

creating less sections to hand sew the back on later.

Overall - I would use this technique again.

Joining Quilt As You Go Panels

"No Where To Hide"

progress contines as the 4 panels are ready to join.

This is new territory for me although

after seeking "how to" from the Web and

other quilters I think I can do it.

Modern Free Style Quilting

Quilting Section 1 of 4 of the Modern Quilt using my

Scrap Vortex blocks has begun.

Lots of solid fabric is new for me....so is straight line quilting.

After 7 rows I've chosen to mix it up a bit with a sophisticated

geometric deign.

Modern Quilt Direction

I've chosen to go with a Modern Quilt design using

some dark grey fabric.  Squaring off 4 of  my Scrap Vortex QALBlocks

from Crazy Mom Quilts Challenge early Summer

using  my 12 1/2 inch square ruler made them easier to use.

I'm thinking this may be a series as I'm already planning other projects with

the many other Scrap Vortex blocks I've created.

Trimming Scrap Vortex Pairs

 OK - I've emptied one bin of batik remnants

creating pairs that are similar in size.

Time to "square" them to create more blocks.

Still not sure what to do with all the blocks

although I've purchased a dark grey fabric

to use for 4 of them .

Batik Strings Into Fabric Locker Hook Rug

 

As I'm creating blocks 

for the Scrap Vortex QAL from the batik remnant bin,

I'm adding the too thin to piece strips to a bucket where

the strips are creating this Locker Hook Rug.

 I first learned of Locker Hook Rug making

when I worked at a local quilt shop.  

It's so easy, we gave on the spot demonstrations with

the rung in process by the check out register.

Of course I created one of my own that has stood the

 test of time at my front door.

It uses up thin fabric strips, easy take along project and

washes wonderfully. What's not to love?

This new rug is totally random and I like the idea of using up even the skinniest strips.

Auditioning Background For Scrap Vortex QAL Blocks

  I began the Scrap Vortex QAL

in June along with Crazy Mom Quilts 

creating various sized batik blocks and rectangles.

and even creating some  non batik blocks

that were completed with the help of my grandsons

into travel pillow cases.

I have about 8 sections finished currently with more batik remnants 

to go.  I've considering this placement for a large Wall Art Hanging

with 4 of them on a black fabric.

Maybe dark gray?? Feed back would be nice.

3 "New" Sofa Pillows or 4?

 Upon her recent visit, my interior designer (My daughter)

helped rearrange my belongings and 

paint over some things and offered color ideas for "new": sofa pillows.
Did I mention I like birds?

I chose to recover 3 of the sofa pillows

from this to aqua, red and navy.

I was thinking of adding a purple one too

 but am considering using this Scrap Vortex QAL

of batik fabrics to also make a quilted one.  

Thoughts?

Asheville Meals On Wheels Place Mat & Napkin Challenge

 The Challenge 2015 for the 

Asheville Quilt Guild 

 this year was  for the members to create  

500 quilted place mats and napkins

to be given to each of the 

 Asheville Meals on Wheels recipients. 

I chose to combine this with my Scrap Vortex QAL to 

purposefully use my remnants.

Scrap Vortex Pillow Case For Little Brother

This Scrap Vortex QAL is so much fun

that I've finished another pillowcase for

the younger visiting grandson.

Side 1 and

Side 2. Now they are both ready for their long car ride home.

 and since he's 2 -well, 

 I was pretty much on my own during

Scrap Vortex QAL With My Little Helpers

 

My 2 Berlin grandsons are visiting while

their parents are in a conference stateside.

Of course, it's time to play in Nana's scrap bag

and create something fun.

So along with their choice of fabrics, 

I continue with a bit of a different direction today

Scrap Vortex QAL Continues

 The fun continues as I glean the batik remnant bin...OK bins

for the Scrap Vortex QAL over at Crazy Mom Quilts.

There's talk of a bed quilt....hmmm not sure that's my destination.

BUT,

I'm having a blast, a messy blast but the results

are very rewarding.

Scrap Vortex QAL - Crazy Mom Quilts

  I've chosen to join the 

Scrap Vortex Quilt ALong (QAL)

with Crazy Mom Quilts blog.

I had a slow start as I was helping someone else sew using my machine

although I pieced in between. 

What fun to go through the  tiny batik fabric remnants.

It's coming along nicely and I'm considering

adding  solid read asymmetrical sashing strips.
