Inspired by a piece of art given to me,

I'm creating a simple cheerful scene.

that begins with some bright sunshine.

Alabama Chanin Style Swirl Skirt

I have admired the Alabama Chanin  technique & designs and hand work for a long time.

I've read books, looked at photos on Pinterest 

and admired friend's projects using  Natalie Chanin's  methods.

I chose to try it out for myself and up-cycle this grey t-shirt skirt.

First I painted white circles on the hemline using fabric paint and a stamp.

Then I backed the hemline with an up-cycled darker gray t-shirt.

Next, I hand Big Stitched outside the swirl using a white Pearle Cotton.

Finally, I cut out the top layer of the swirl revealing the darker gray.

I am pleased with my skirt and am pondering my next project.

"Shining Stars" - Collaboration With Mom

My mom came for a 2 week visit and we collaborated

on this wall hanging for my sister. 

Mom chose the blue batik fabrics and placement of the stars.

 It's machine quilted and a fun reminder of Mom's visit.

"Sentinel" - $175

"Sentinel" is being delivered today in preparation for an Asheville

 Gallery show for the months of April & May. 

"Sentinel" began on January 1, 2017 as I participated 

in the #ayearinstitches Challenge (hand embroidery stitching each day)

along with others around the globe. 

All hand embroidered in various purple thread on a 

hand dyed yellow and purple fabric.

A snap is part of Sentinel's eye as it keeps careful watch.

Machine quilted in white thread. Designs of pebbles, swirls, spiral circles 

and spiral squares. 

Machine signed by artist.

Collaboration Wallflower Creation | The Button Florist

I have admired the art of 

The Button Florist - Celia Barbieri for quite some time now.

Naturally, I contacted Celia when I wanted to create some button flowers from some of my many

buttons and use this plaque from my daughter with my husband's favorite verse inscribed into it,

along with some of the buttons from his old work shirts 

to create a Wallflower.

Thankfully, Celia's offered her expertise & a few ceramic buttons to my limited skill

and our collaboration creation was born.  I am very happy with it.

Bird Cage Art Collage | A Year In Stitches | April Art Daily

Day 30 of the April Art Daily 2016

yielded the center section of this composition where 

2 aqua birds were stenciled with embroidered eye

 surrounded by a hand embroidered bird cage. 

Now it's a part of a Bird Art Collage where I added more embroidery 

as part of the A Year In Stitches Challenge.

I enjoy working with a client to get 

just the perfect Clergy Stole for their needs. 

Often it is for a gift and each stole is unique.

This Reversible Modern Clergy Stole 

is 5 inches longer on each side as the client requested.

The Ordinary Times side is pieced in various green batik fabrics while

the Wedding/ Baptism side is pieced in various white batik fabrics -

both in an improvisational style. Machine quilted.
