"Gray Matter" Fiber Art Bird Collage

I've been thinking of what to create for the

Asheville Quilt Guild Show's Member Category 

"Gray Matter" 

I challenged myself to only use gray fabrics - a stretch since

I usually use many bright colors. And since I'm still having so much fun creating birds,

it made sense to make a larger version of the Bird Art from the 

April Art Daily 2016 Challenge.

Here's the all gray background fabrics pieced with lots of pins

ready for the hand applique process. 

I do enjoy hand sewing.

Since creating a Fiber Art Bird daily for the April Art Daily in bright batik & hand dyed fabrics, this "Gray matter" AQG Member challenge seemed fun. The hand embroidery on the bird is variegated grey Pearl Cotton.

Blue Bird Art Collage

This Blue Bird Art Collage has it's beginning on
Day 8 of the April Art Daily 2016 Challenge.
The bird is "Seed" Stitched in black pearl cotton thread
and more "Seed" stitching enhances around the bird legs.
Collage blends a nature blue and white fabric that is machine stitched
in white for texture, while screen fiber overlays blue organza ribbon.
Embellished with silver metal buttons and mounted on an 11 X 14 inch
black cradle frame.  $125 - available here.

Beach Bird Art Collage | Quilted Wall Hanging

This Quilted Bird Art Collage began on Day 29 of

the April Art Daily 2016 Challenge.

Adding a Beach blue background with

machine quilting "vogel" (German for bird)

along with wave type lines along with a

silver snap for an eye make this a fun piece.

It's mounted on an 11 inch  X 14 inch black cradle board.

Bird Cage Art Collage | A Year In Stitches | April Art Daily

Day 30 of the April Art Daily 2016

yielded the center section of this composition where 

2 aqua birds were stenciled with embroidered eye

 surrounded by a hand embroidered bird cage. 

Now it's a part of a Bird Art Collage where I added more embroidery 

as part of the A Year In Stitches Challenge.

Stolen Quilt | "Gray Bird At Dusk"

Just learned that "Gray Bird At Dusk" was stolen from a local Gallery. Please contact me if you see it.
"Grey Bird At Dusk" highlights white hand embroidery on a grey bird standing watch. A sentinel if you will.
Measuring 23 1/2 inches X 28 1/2 inches. Notice the silver/grey button eye for a pop of whimsy.
For this composition I challenged myself to only use gray fabrics - a stretch since I usually use many bright colors. And since I'm still having so much fun creating birds, it made sense to make a larger version of the Bird Art from the April Art Daily 2016 Challenge. I was delighted when it came home from a competition with a blue ribbon. Hanging sleeve makes is a breeze to hang.

Revised Fuchsia Bird Fiber Art Collage | Quilted Wall Hanging

This bird needed to stand out a bit more from the background,

so I added a light yellow lazy daisy stitch around the edge of it's body.

to enjoy more of them as well.

SOLD - Blue Art Quilt Bird House | Day 219 A Block A Day Challenge | Day 7 -30 Day Art Challenge

 I completed this Art Quilt Bird House for Day 219 A Block A Day Challenge 

and delivered it to it's new owner who already has placed it with her sweet bird decor.

For the 30 Day Art Challenge Day 7: Create something reflecting on "Beauty for Ashes" 

I worked more on this orange flower collage on blue batik. 

This flower shape I designed has a long story behind it and the first 3 times I created with it the Lord was speaking that He would bring beauty out of that painful time - ashes.

 I even titled one of the pieces, "a crown of beauty instead." 

This time, the Lord actually redeemed the flower shape into beauty

 not representing ashes. Redemption - how sweet.
